First look · Full test coming
Meta launched Muse in September 2026, and it’s one of the most talked-about AI tools of the fall. It’s not a chatbot. Muse is an agent: you tell it what you want done, and it goes and does it. That’s powerful. It’s also why privacy experts in Canada are paying close attention.
What Muse can do
- Book travel
- Order groceries
- Fill out forms and handle admin tasks
- Send invitations
- Sell items and negotiate purchases
- Chase refunds and cancel subscriptions you forgot about
The catch: it needs a lot of access
To do all of that, Muse asks for access to your email, your phone and a payment card. Global News reports several concerns:
- Data it collects is stored and could be used to train AI.
- Once you connect your email, your past messages can be read right away, before you have a chance to change your mind.
- One user reported their home address was shared on Facebook Marketplace without permission.
- It can touch other people’s private information too, like messages from your doctor or clients.
“The more you want accomplish with agents, the more you have to give away your access to your data.”
Ebrahim Bagheri, University of Toronto, to Global News
And not every company wants it around. Amazon has blocked Muse from making purchases, saying it violates Amazon’s conditions of use. Canada’s privacy commissioner has also warned Canadians to be careful with AI agents like this one.
Station verdict (first look)
Powerful. Give it the minimum.
- Use a virtual or one-time card, not your main credit card.
- Don’t connect your main email. Use a separate address for shopping and subscriptions.
- Check its permissions in settings and turn off anything the task doesn’t need.
We haven’t scored Muse yet. A real “Tested” score means using it for several days on a test account. Full review coming soon.
Do it yourself instead
If all you want is to find forgotten subscriptions, you don’t need an AI. It takes about a minute: here’s how on iPhone and Android. And before giving any agent access, read our 6 rules for using AI agents safely.
